Can I Stop a Direct Debit Payment That's Already Pending?

Why a payment in Pending Payment status can't be cancelled, and what to do if your customer has already paid another way.

Last updated About 3 hours ago

If a Direct Debit payment is showing a Pending Payment status, it can no longer be cancelled.

This is because the payment has already been submitted for processing, and the debit has been attempted.

What if my customer has already paid another way?

If your customer has made a payment using another method, you'll need to wait for the Direct Debit payment to finish processing before taking further action.

If the Direct Debit is successful, you can issue a refund once the payment has completed the required clearance period.

How can I prevent this in the future?

If you need to cancel or make changes to a scheduled Direct Debit payment, you must do so before the scheduled debit date.

Once the payment reaches Pending Payment status, it has already been submitted for processing and cannot be stopped.

Important: Always check upcoming Direct Debit payments and make any necessary changes before the debit date to avoid duplicate payments.
