After a template has been created, you can edit most of its settings as required.
Editing Restrictions
Some template settings cannot be changed under certain conditions:
- If the template is based on a total amount to be paid and has direct debits attached to it, the Recurring Amount cannot be changed.
- The End Condition ("Payments Continue Until...") cannot be changed once the template has been created.
Updating a Template
Changes to most direct debit template fields will prompt you to create a new template version.
Depending on the changes made, you can choose whether direct debits attached to the current version remain on the existing version or are upgraded to the new version.
Example
You have a template with a recurring amount of $100 per fortnight. Later, you decide to increase the recurring amount to $120 per fortnight.
When you save the change, a new template version is created. You can then choose whether direct debits attached to the current version should:
- Remain on the existing version and continue using the $100 recurring amount, or
- Be upgraded to the new version and begin using the $120 recurring amount, subject to any applicable restrictions.
This allows you to update template settings for future use while controlling how existing direct debits are affected.
Impact on Attached Direct Debits
When a direct debit is upgraded to a new template version, any applicable changes are automatically reflected on the direct debit. A timeline entry is also added to record the update.
Customers with affected active or paused direct debits will receive relevant email notifications.
For more information about how template changes may affect direct debits, see: Edit a Direct Debit.
Deleting a Template
Templates can be deleted from the Template List page.
