For legal and security reasons you can not change the legal name of the business within Pay Advantage online.
If your ABN remains the same and you wish to update your Pay Advantage account name to another registered business name linked to this ABN please contact support on 1300 641 310.
If your ABN and business/company details have changed, you will be required to create a new Pay Advantage account for this business. Once you have created a new account we can close the previous account if it is no longer required. All payments/payment arrangements must be ceased on the previous account and reinstated on the new company account.
Why a New Merchant Account is Required When Business Details Change
Our company requires merchants to create a new merchant account whenever there are changes to the business or company details (e.g. legal entity, ABN/ACN, ownership, company name). This is necessary to ensure:
1. Regulatory Compliance
Payment processing is subject to strict financial regulations, including anti-money laundering (AML) and know- your-customer (KYC) rules. Accurate business details are legally required for each merchant account.
2. Accurate Risk Assessment
Each merchant account is assessed based on the specific business entity. Changes to the company structure or ownership can alter the risk profile, which affects underwriting and fraud prevention.
3. Clear Financial Separation
A new account ensures that funds, liabilities, and transactions remain correctly associated with the current legal entity, reducing errors or disputes.
4. Seamless Payment Processing
Maintaining up-to-date business details allows for smooth transaction approvals, settlement, and reporting. Attempting to update an existing account with a new business entity could cause declines or settlement delays.
5. Security and Accountability
A new merchant account guarantees that the entity accepting payments is properly verified, reducing potential financial or legal exposure for both the merchant and our company.
A new account is required to comply with legal and regulatory obligations, protect both parties and ensure reliable and secure payment processing. Updating an old account is insufficient because the underlying legal entity and associated responsibilities have changed.
